Not every product shoot calls for a bright, clean kitchen look. Sometimes the best way to sell a "farm fresh" claim is to go dark — and let the product itself provide all the color.
That was the idea behind our shoot for Safari Desi Ghee, from Safari Farm Fresh — a 400g (14.10oz) jar of pure desi ghee marketed on one simple promise: "Pure extract from our farms." The brand needed photography and a short product video that felt as premium as that promise.
The Brief
Safari Farm Fresh wanted their ghee to stand out on shelves and on Instagram alike — not with a plain white studio shot, but with something that felt rustic, warm and a little dramatic. On top of stills, they also wanted a short vertical video for Reels, TikTok and Stories, shot in the same session.
The Look: Dark & Moody
We shot the entire product against a black background with a single dramatic light source, so the gold foil seal, the green-and-gold Safari packaging, and the deep amber of the ghee itself would be the only things catching the eye. Props were kept rustic and farm-authentic: hand-carved wooden spoons, a burlap sack, dried wheat sprigs and rosemary — nothing that felt like a supermarket studio.

The label itself already illustrates the product with a wooden bowl of ghee and a spoon — so we echoed that same warm, rustic imagery in the physical styling around the jar, tying the packaging design and the photography together.

From Photos to Motion: Adding a Product Video
Stills alone don't always hold attention on social feeds. So alongside the photography, we shot and edited a short vertical (9:16) product video of the Safari Desi Ghee jar — the same dark, moody lighting and props, but in motion, compressed and optimized for fast loading on Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp.

Why Dark, Moody Photography Works for Farm & Organic Brands
Bright white studio shots aren't the only way to sell "pure" or "farm fresh." A dark background does the opposite job just as well — it strips away distraction, adds contrast, and lets a golden, natural product like ghee or honey read as rich and premium rather than plain. Paired with rustic props instead of glossy studio ones, it reinforces the story the brand is already telling on its label.

Book Your Product ShootFrequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between product photography and a product video for the same item?
Photography gives you still, high-resolution images for listings, packaging and print. A short vertical product video adds motion, sound and pacing — built specifically for Instagram Reels, TikTok and Stories, where static images get scrolled past faster.
Do you shoot photography and video in the same session?
Yes. For Safari Desi Ghee we captured both the styled product photography and a short vertical product video in one session, keeping the lighting, props and mood consistent across both formats.
What background works best for a food product like ghee?
It depends on the brand. For Safari Desi Ghee we used a dark, moody black background to make the golden ghee and gold foil packaging pop, giving a farm-fresh product a premium, dramatic feel rather than a plain bright kitchen look.
How long is a typical product video?
Most product reels for social media run 15 to 30 seconds — long enough to show the product, packaging and a key detail shot, short enough to hold attention on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
